"We have but one life to live. Nothing brings more satisfaction than making that life count in a way that enriches the lives of others. The nonprofit arena for so many of us is the perfect milieu in which to make that happen. Even more so, when it is entered with the spirit of encouraging self-knowledge, the desire to learn from the best, and the courage to be our best rather than put forth no more than an average or mediocre effort."

CONSULTANT
From speaking engagements, leadership training, mindfulness practices, and more, I am happy to share the knowledge I've gained over the past 40 years at the helm of a major nonprofit company company and many other experiences.
ABOUT ME
For four decades I served as President and CEO of Total Action for Progress in the Roanoke Valley dedicated to creating a pathway out of poverty for hundreds of thousands living in Virginia and across the U.S.. During that time I learned what it takes to make a high impact nonprofit that has had a collective impact on access to water and sewer, housing, reentry of ex-offenders, college access for minority, and primary health care for children.
My book, Navigating the Nonprofit Rapids: Strategies and Tactics for Running a Nonprofit Company, was published in 2016 and has received high acclaim from readers and reviewers.
My time is divided between consultation with nonprofit and for-profit companies, teaching at local colleges and universities, frequent speaking engagements, and launching a new organization, the Mindfulness Institute of the Roanoke Valley.
